There's nothing like grabbing a few bumbleberries with some co-workers. Or splitting a slice of apple with your girlfriend. Yeah, I'm talking about pie happy hour.
An NPR piece from earlier in the week on the death of the cupcake (so many have tried and been overwhelmed by the frosted beast) had a throwaway line about why pie will take the cupcake's throne. It turns out that New York and Texas restaurants have pie happy hours.
It wouldn't take much to get a similar deal going here in Kansas City. We're a city of eaters. We'd get excited over some reasonably priced dessert. Call it a reverse happy hour because dessert comes first.
While a cheap Boulevard is nice, not everybody drinks. But nearly everybody eats pie. We already have shot glasses filled with apple cake, and small plates and empanadas on some menus. Why not a few savory mini pies?
Enterprising restaurateurs, here's your chance to take advantage of the one aspect of dining out that doesn't seem to be shrinking. QSRWeb writes that a new study from market research firm Technomic
shows that, despite cutbacks elsewhere, diners are holding firm on
dessert, with 70 percent of those polled saying they order dessert
at least once a week.
So call up the Upper Crust Bakery and say that you need to be serving its pies Monday through Thursday during an exclusive happy hour. Add a few martinis to the menu and you've got a proper Bake and Shake special.
