Spicy White Castle Dip: a make-it-yourself Super Bowl snack we're admittedly scared to make

It takes 10 of these to make Spicy White Castle Dip.
Chips and salsa? Out! Potato chips with ranch dip? Totally passe. For hosts and hostesses in Fat City who really want to impress friends and family coming over to watch Super Bowl XLV on February 6, the creative culinary wizards at Columbus, Ohio-based White Castle headquarters have developed stunning snack recipes that involve White Castle sliders. The company's publicity team kindly e-mailed the recipes to us in Fat City.

No, there isn't a White Castle in the Kansas City metro anymore, but several area supermarkets sell boxes of the frozen product, which can be heated up in the microwave oven and then mashed up in a food processor to make "Spicy White Castle Dip."

SPICY WHITE CASTLE DIP

10 White Castle hamburgers
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
3 packets of White Castle Dusseldorf mustard
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
9 ounces chunked hot pepper jack cheese
2/3 cup milk
2 tablespoons parsley flakes

Directions: Mix cream cheese and mustard together and spread on bottom of large, shallow serving dish; spread onions evenly on top. Put burgers in food processor until blended and spread over onions. Cut cheese into chunks, add milk and melt in microwave for one or two minutes. Stir until creamy. Pour cheese mixture over burgers. Sprinkle parsley flakes on top. Heat for 3-4 minutes in microwave or in conventional oven for 20 minutes. Serve with a large bag of tortilla chips.

"This dip was a winner in the 2000 'White Castle Crave Time Cook-Off.' Hands down, it was one of the favorites," says Brynn Burton, who handles public relations for White Castle but hasn't actually tasted the spicy dip. Her personal favorite recipe, she says, is the turkey stuffing that uses 10 White Castle burgers -- without the pickles.

I'm trying to convey my thought without offending you or getting flagged. It's proving difficult.

If getting you drunk gets you to eat White Castles - just IMAGINE how much fun you could have if were unconscious! Especially in those sexy librarian glasses......

;)

TRUST ME it's meant as a compliment. Here, I'll smack myself for you....

A sign that the end is truly nigh.

I think, if you like those condiments, you should add them.

Sounds like a winner! I prefer my sliders with everything (mustard, ketchup, pickle and onions--no cheese), but I guess the recipe would have me leave out the mustard/ketchup/pickle before blending, right?

Good question, I wondered about that as well. If I had any interest in making this dish, which I don't, I would substitute two teaspoons of a packaged Bavarian-style mustard, like Koops. Or two teaspoons of dijon mustard. If any other readers have other suggestions, I'd like to hear them.

If you don't have a White Castle nearby, and need to use the frozen burgers from the grocery store... what then do you use for the mustard? I don't have access to their mustard.

Honey, wait until you try the "stuffing" recipe (click on the link) next Thanksgiving. You'll never want to go out for dim sum again!

Very positive, a few people picked out the White Castle immediately and few were shocked. But they all finished the entire bowl, The only thing I did wrong was over processed the burgers-thank goodness those are cheap.

In blending the burgers in the food processor, do you put them in bun-and-all? Or just the meat?

Gross and disgusting!!! Not in a million years... I have to be drunk to even eat a White Castle burger in the first place, this... I would have to be unconscious!!
