The snowstorm that ate restaurant business in 2011
The last seven days will go down in history for the brutal blizzard that wreaked havoc on Restaurant Week (it was extended through next Wednesday), a Valentine's Day holiday market (it was postponed until tomorrow) and restaurant business in general.
Restaurant customers who frequently dine out stayed home during the worst nights -- Monday and Tuesday -- and either made a grilled cheese sandwich or poured themselves a grilled cheese-and-tomato soup martini.
There were warmer stories to consider, too, even as the temperatures dropped: Congregation B'nai Jehudah's annual chicken soup cook-off, an introduction to the Great Day Cafe (the hippie-ish coffeehouse and lunch joint in Overland Park), and five unconventional foods that you might choose to start grilling.
We reported on food trucks and spending bucks, survived Chinese New Year (and the return of disco), offered advice to Krispy Kreme and looked back at January's restaurant roll call, opened a can of Walgreens brew and made dinner reservations to say "I love you."
We'll be back Monday with more news and frivolity from the KC restaurant scene. In the meantime, tell us (and each other) where you're eating this weekend.
