Joy Jacobs, the owner of the R Bar, the restaurant and entertainment venue in the West Bottoms, is very excited that her chef, Alex Pope -- the winner of "Best Chef" in last year's Pitch "Best of Kansas City" issue -- is in the running for Food & Wine's "The People's Best New Chef 2011: Midwest" Award.
On both her personal Facebook page and the R Bar page, Joy is pushing fans of her saloon -- and anyone else for that matter -- to visit this website and vote for Pope.
Chiming in with support for Pope on the R Bar Facebook page are the Roasterie, restaurant publicist Lee Page, and various other bloggers and foodie-types. And not to be left out, Fat City has even put a link to the Food & Wine voting site on our Facebook page.
In the online competition, Pope faces some stiff competition, including Tim Dahl from Nostrano in Madison, Wisconsin; Erik Anderson from Sea Change in Minneapolis; Mike Brown and Jim Winberg from Travail in Robbinsdale, Minnesota; Carly Groben from Proof in Des Moines; and Lee Anderson from Ashley's at the Capitol Hotel in Little Rock. Three chefs from the St. Louis region were nominated: Josh Galliano from Monarch, Kevin Willmann from Farmhaus, and Anthony Devoti of Five.
The chef from all of the regions who scores the most votes will be named "The People's Best New Chef for 2011" and will be profiled in the July issue of Food & Wine magazine.
