You've probably seen them snuggling up around town, getting all cozy and nervously shying away when the paper plate touched the plastic cup. It's not shocking when you hear that red soda and barbecue are together. Except now, they've decided to make it official.
Big Red Soda offered sponsorship and the Kansas City Barbeque Society accepted. And with that, Big Red Soda is the official soft drink of the KCBS.
Fat City managed to reach Red Cream Soda for comment, but the typically bubbly drink was decidely without effervescence upon hearing the news.
"Really. That's [expletive removed]. It's not like I'm colored blue or white. I'm a red-colored, American soda. It's not like you can get me at White Castle ... [phone goes briefly silent and then loud crying is heard in the background] ... aww, baby ... I didn't mean it. You know I'm happy being with you ... I gotta go ... ," Red Cream Soda said.
But perhaps nobody was more shocked than Coca-Cola, a mainstay both on and off the grill.
"I'm used for barbecue, regularly," said the Coca-Cola can on my desk. "I had no idea there was even another soda in barbecue's life."
Thankfully, the strawberry soda in the dispenser at Gates Bar-B-Q on Main Street was able to put it all in perspective.
"I'm just happy to see another red soda doing well in today's down economy. If Big Red can snag a fine-looking organization like the KCBS, then more power to it," Strawberry Soda said. "But if I ever catch you sniffing around my Gates, I will break my tap off in your straw hole."
