The season of Lent, a time for fasting and purification, is approaching more quickly than your excuses to avoid it. And the chaos of Mardi Gras is coming with it.

The five precious days left before Ash Wednesday should be filled with

your favorite junk food, guilty pleasures and anything you can't admit

in church during the next month.

Fat City is here to help you on

your quest for questionable activities with the top five Mardi Gras celebrations in town:

1. Lord of Misrule Venetian Mardi Gras at Fringe Central

If you're feeling charitable (in a way that doesn't involve the removal

of clothing), proceeds from the KC Fringe Festival's fundraiser at

Fringe Central, 1730 Broadway, will support art events in Kansas City.

From 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday, March 5, get your fill of jambalaya

and king's cake, entry into the costume contest, and body and face

painting for $20 in advance or $25 at the door. A cash bar will be available, so come prepared to support the arts.

2. Mardi Gras Free-4-All at KC Power & Light
The Kansas City Power and Light District's third-annual Mardi Gras Festival is Saturday, March 5, from 9 to 11 p.m. The $20 ticket gets you unlimited access to nine different venues: Mosaic, Shark Bar, Rock Bar, PBR, Tengo, Maker's Mark, Pizza Bar, McFadden's and Living Room in KC Live. Live music will include  DJ Spinstyles at Mosaic, party band Perpetual Change and Washboard Joe. Winners of the costume, king-cake-eating and bead contests will receive $500 and a sense of accomplishment.

3. Mardi Gras Madness at Corbin Theatre
The Corbin Theatre's annual gala and auction will last from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in the Tuscan Ballroom at the Liberty Hills Country Club, 19808 County Road H in Liberty. Tickets for the evening are $30 each, or $270 for a table of 10, and come with a buffet dinner with a cash bar, dancing to live music by Bram Wijnands' swing band, and live and silent auctions. This will not be the best option for partygoers looking to collect beads, so don't say I didn't warn you.

4. Glitz & Gluttony Fat Tuesday Bash by McFadden's and Shark Bar
This bash in the KC Power & Light District will feature half-price steak at Maker's Mark, a dance party at Shark Bar, live music by Salamander at McFadden's, and food and drink specials throughout the evening from 8 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, March 8. Don't miss out on the crawfish-eating and bead contests, but remember that other partygoers may not want to see you do both.

5. Mardi RA at RA Sushi

Mardi RA will begin during happy hour, from 3 to 7 p.m., and last until 1 a.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at RA Sushi, 11638 Ash in Leawood. Enjoy appetizer and drink specials throughout the evening, including the $6 King Cake Martini and the $8 Voodoo Roll. DJ Mike Scott will provide live entertainment from 9:30 p.m. until the end of the night.
