Sugar Mama's (7943 Santa Fe) in Overland Park will close this Sunday, March 19. The bake shop (which specializes in cupcakes) is run by Jasmin Talbert, who took over the business earlier this year from her sister, Monique, the shop's founder.

Talbert explained on the shop's Facebook page that she is trading in her baker's hat for a Bunsen burner:

"I have received a job offer overseas that is really too good to be true. Thus the shop is being sold, and I am moving on to work in my field of study (geophysics)," writes Talbert.

Sugar Mama's, known for its cupcakes and specialty cakes, will have a few closing specials. A dozen mini cupcakes or cookies will be $12 and a dozen lemon bars will be $20.

Earlier this month, Sugar Mama's featured "The Sheen" cupcake. It was a "Coke and tiger blood cupcake," filled with Adonis DNA-infused vanilla whipped cream, topped with rum icing and  a sprinkle of gold warlock dust.

Sugar Mama's opened in downtown Overland Park in April of last year. The shop will be open daily from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. trhough this Sunday.

Since the shop is being sold, not closed, what do you hope to see in that space?
