We can eat with the best of them. Now, we just need to prove it.
Butchers in Penne, Italy, recently rolled out (literally) the world's largest sausage. The Metro reports that the sausage was over 1,300 pounds and 597.8 meters (about 1,961 feet) long. The Guinness Book of World Records certified the sausage, which bested the previous record holder from Romania, which came in at 392 meters. Putting aside Penne's feelings of inadequacy, let's look at some records that Kansas City might be able to claim for its own.
We do hold six overall records, between Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri. Shockingly, five involve the Royals and Chiefs. The last is being recognized for having the largest lino print. But none of them involve our gustatory abilities.
1. The Largest Food Fight. Apparently, 219 people fought with buns in the United Kingdom back in 2009. That's not a food fight; that's a minor food misunderstanding.
2. Most shrimps eaten in 3 minutes. More than eight years old, this record stands at 9.6 ounces. Let's take this title from Asheville, North Carolina.
3. Largest open sandwich. We'll need a signature feat. How about besting the 1,337-pound open sandwich from Moore's BBQ in New Bern, North Carolina?
4. Longest barbecue marathon. You talk to any competitive smoker, and a day is par for the course. The longest barbecue marathon is 28 hours and 30 minutes. We'd call that a Thursday before the competition.
Anybody feel like breaking some records?
