Not every Fat City reader cares about -- or even remotely believes in -- ghosts, even though there are a number of restaurants in Kansas City that have been long rumored to be haunted. That list includes the Savoy Grill, Pierpont's, Succotash, and the Majestic Restaurant. The poltergeists that operate in these venues have been known to smoke cigarettes (Succotash) or just walk around at night.
But last night, Suzanne Frisse, who operates Meadowlark Acres (a local company offering cooking classes and a variety of homemade food products), insists that her late husband, Dan, was in her kitchen ... cooking.
Frisse's husband, Dan, passed away last year from congestive heart failure. Suzanne says Dan was a notorious prankster in life. So several months after his death, when she was eating dinner at her home with her sister and realized that someone had "spiked" the steamed broccoli with red-pepper flakes, she couldn't help but wonder if her late husband had been messing around in the kitchen. The "spiking" of her food, Frisse says, went on for weeks.
Frisse continues:
"Last night's event started with an e-mail from a friend of mine asking how I was doing and then telling me something interesting. She said as she was writing to me, her daughter came in and said, 'Mom, tell your friend who lost her husband that he's gardening like crazy right now in their yard.' " This was about 9 p.m. last night. It was chilly, dark and we have three acres so I decided not to go in search of Dan."
