There's a subtle art to the NPR pledge drive. The hosts cajole and gently chide listeners to dig deep and make a pledge.
Blogger Chris Riebschlager, the author behind The816.com, thinks he may have found a way to keep the membership drive from getting stale -- the "NPR Drive Pledge Drinking Game." So turn up the radio, grab a case of Big Flats 1901 and get ready for The816's drinking game.
"It seemed like a funny idea to create a pledge-drive drinking game,"
Riebschlager says. "Why not turn something boring and monotonous into
something fun and mildly unhealthy?"
Riebschlager is a fan of public radio, but he noticed that some of the routines from his Northwest Missouri University days working as a board operator and news announcer for KXCV/KNRW in Maryville, MIssouri, were still in play. So he combined his knowledge of pledge-drive techniques and the classic extracurricular college activity of the drinking game. The result is above.
Please don't play this one on your morning commute. This is a strictly at-home version.
