Sur La Table opened on the Plaza this morning at 430 Nichols Road in the former Sony Style space.
"The store is absolutely beautiful. I hope people come in and learn what we're all about," manager Harold Barillas says.
The 5,000-square-foot store is filled with electronics, kitchen goods and a built-out coffee bar. There's also a strong emphasis on grilling with three separate areas for barbecue items.
"We have everything for the grill that you can think of ..." Barillas says. The store carries sauces and rubs from barbecue guru Stephen Raichlen, as well as a Himalayan salt plate and chili-pepper roasting racks.
Sur La Table also stocks Le Creuset (which will be opening a retail outlet at One Nineteen in Leawood in the next year) and All-Clad cookware, as well as Wusthof knives. The centerpiece of the store is a massive coffee bar. The shop features Jura coffee machines and Illy coffee.
"We offer coffee to our customers every day. It's part of who we are," Barillas says.
The store won't be offering classes because it doesn't have a kitchen, but Barillas plans to offer parties, where customers can have access to the store after hours. The events were popular with bridal parties and foodies at the store that he previously managed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Sur La Table, based out of Seattle, Washington, has 75 stores
