Get your kids in the car and start telling them about the legend -- an era is ending at Taco Via. Joyce Smith of The Kansas City Star reports that the Taco Via at 8615 W. 95th St. will be moving because of the redevelopment of the Valley View shopping center.
But you apparently won't have to travel much farther to get your flat nachos. Taco Via will be reopening in the former Blockbuster space at 8900 W. 95th St.
Smith reports that Taco Via will remain open in its original location until July, which is when the new space is expected to be ready. So you still have time for a few more "affordable family fiestas" at 8615 W. 95th St., where Taco Via has been for more than 40 years.
Taco Via's charm, as it has been explained to me, is that change has never entered the strip-mall walls. The menu items are still identified with pictures, and those menu items are made the exact same way. So, if Taco Via had to move, perhaps it's only fitting that it will take over the space of another former stalwart of the 1980s: Blockbuster.
