Natural Grocers has decided to open a location -- the first in Kansas for the health food and grocery store based out of Colorado.
The Lawrence Journal-World reports that the store will be opening at 23rd Street and Naismith Drive in the spot currently occupied by a Burger King. The building will be razed in June, and the grocer is targeting a mid-November opening.
Natural Grocers has more than 40 locations, most in Colorado, with stores in Texas, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. It's known for carrying certified organic products and having a methodology that's similar to Whole Foods. The LJW article notes that vitamins and health supplements will make up approximately half the store's footprint.
"We really cater to specialty diets, gluten-free, non-GMO (genetically modified organisms)," Nancy Flynn, Natural Grocers' director of marketing, told the Lawrence-Journal World. "We feel like we're the label-readers in the market."In addition to organic produce, Natural Grocers also stocks grass-fed, organic beef. The store intends to hold nutrition classes and have a nutritional health coach on staff.
