Seven Eight food trucks hit the road, and one rolls home with $100,000 in prize money. That's the premise for the second season of the six-city, six-week show, The Great Food Truck Race, that is currently being filmed for the Food Network.
Last weekend, the trucks set up shop in Denver, and right now they're on their way to Manhattan, Kansas, where they'll be filming from Thursday to Sunday. Host Tyler Florence is tweeting the entire journey, noting that Kansas State University is the next stop.
Although the lineup is supposed to be secret, the Internet and oodles of food bloggers have revealed that Seabirds (a vegan food truck from California), Hodge Podge (barbecue from Cleveland), Lime Truck (beach cuisine from California), Cafe Con Leche (Cuban food from New York City), Korilla BBQ (Korean BBQ from NYC), Roxy Grilled Cheese (Boston), and Devilicious (gourmet burgers and fries from California) are among the contestants.
In each city (so far the tour has stopped in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Denver), the trucks have to source local ingredients and set up in what they hope is a good location. After that, the rules are simple. Whoever makes the least amount of money drives home. The rest of the caravan continues on the road.
The Great Food Truck Race premieres Sunday, August 14, at 9 p.m. on the Food Network.
Showing 1-41 of 41
I just want to say that I am from Manhattan Kansas home of the wild cats :D and "dumbing" it down for us lime truck was probably the most idiotic thing ever... Shows how much you know :P
look all i can say is that maybe the lime truck could have had smarter choices rather than dumbing it down for us
We are considering this. Watch out for the Guerillas of Soul, coming soon to a parking lot near you! :)
WHY on EARTH would they choose MANHATTAN of ALL places? LAWRENCE, KANSAS has the superior selection of restaurants, organic food, and nightlife. KU is better than KSU in every way possible. BAD DECISION, Great Food Truck Race! You'll regret stopping in that HAYSEED town!!!!!!!!!!
No Manhattan news people? I'm one, I was there, and FN recorded me interviewing the Korilla truck. Look for me on the show.
The race was fun. had food at korilla, very good. Also at the Lime Truck, fantastic food. Long lines, lots of fun. Three trucks were at city park, one by varneys in aggieville, and another at MCC. Lots of fun for the community. No manhattan news people, very little coverage. looks like aggieville tried to keep out the event. sad.......
I've heard from someone who works at the Farmer's Market (the one behind the courthouse) that the Seabirds Vegan truck will be there Saturday morning. Rumor is maybe a 2nd one as well. However, I've also heard they'll be outside of The Ale House from 1-9pm.
Aggieville merchants have said their will be one truck in front of Bluestem Bistro (Korilla BBQ), one in the Varney's parking lot, and one in the Kite's parking lot. I've heard both The Lime Truck and Hodge Podge for Kite's but I'm sure one is actually Varney's. Either way it seems like you just need to hit up Aggieville for some great food!
I'll definitely be out looking tomorrow!
Maybe someone will catch on and start a food truck revolution in this town!! Help out the Hot Dog guy that tried to sell off his cart!!!
Seabirds Truck will be at the Ale House Saturday 1-8:45pm. You have got to try their food. Local, Organic, & Vegetarian served by all girls.
The trucks won't actually be serving until Saturday and Sunday. Filming started today at the courthouse this morning, they're doing just the background footage of the city today and tomorrow.
I saw mention of Devilicious competing in Salt Lake City, but I didn't see mention of them in Denver and concluded they went out in Salt Lake. Some other truck was eliminated in Las Vegas, but I haven't seen mention of who they were.
Who's the "they" who says it's going to be Lime Truck all the way? I hope they're right; I love those guys. It's not like their the first gourmet food truck or even the first good food truck, but they've taken gourmet food trucks to the edge of possible. They once made an exquisite osso bucco that they sold on china plates for $31 per plate. It was better than I've ever had in any sit-down restaurant. They sold out. Maybe that's not the best approach for Manhattan, KS, but they're versatile. If the Food Network gives them the tools to work with they'll make something the locals will love at a good value. Sorry for the promotion; I get carried away.
It seems a shame to take business away from the local restaurants on their busiest weekend. Hopefully there's enough business to go around.
I will be shocked if it wasn't Cafe con Leche that was eliminated in Denver, and that's based on seeing their lines (or lack of) and the buzz that surrounded the food that people did sample.
Apparently the Cafe Con Leche guys were talking trash about the Lime Truck and a couple of other trucks. They say it's going to be Lime Truck all the way. Those Cafe Con Leche people are bad news - they owe a LOT of people a LOT of money - people who worked hard for them, they've completely screwed. I don't think people who conduct business like that deserve any publicity or a shot to be on a successful show like this. Shame on the producers for not doing their due-diligence.
I hope the show got permits for this, or they'll be in trouble. The City of Manhattan is NOT a friendly place for mobile food vendors.
As a side note, I think they can still get local beef at the KSU Dairy, along with KSU Ice Cream, cheese, eggs, butter, pork, lamb, and even some processed sausage products!! Fresh veggies at Eastside or Westside markets & farmer's market! We also have the new Chinese market on Fort Riley, a Mexican food market on Hayes Drive, and all the products at People's Grocery!! MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
I would say, Aggieville, mall, Target or Westloop, maybe at the Alumni Center or football stadium parking lot...lots of activity at both places, since graduation is at Bramlage. :) Bring them to town, and we will come to eat!! Yum!! :)
I'm betting they will be in Aggieville, at the mall and maybe outside of Walmart, I have no idea where else it might be. Does anyone know when they will be here. I'm hoping to figure out where they are after finals.
Graduation weekend is the busiest time of year for Manhattan restaurants, so yeah FN did get it right on! idiot
And the Manhattan City commission just rescinded the ordnance that allowed street vendors :) .
Hey guys, check out my posts from "The Great Food Truck Race" in Denver:

Did the Cafe con Leche truck make it?
What I really think is interesting about this story vis-a-vis a smaller city is that as of 7:10 pm Central Time, The Manhattan Mercury has not given a clue that they even have a whiff of the news (no pun intended). Sounds like great fun!
I don't know. One Denver source speculated it was Cafe Con Leche, but I don't know how she would know. We'll be able to figure it out by processor elimination when they roll into Manhattan.
First, a couple of corrections. Eight trucks started the race and five remain. Las Vegas was the first city, then SLC and Denver.
I want to encourage you to visit two trucks, in particular. The Lime Truck is an Orange County California favorite that won "Best of the Fest" at the 2010 OC Foodie Fest and was named Orange County's No. 1 (New) Restaurant in 2010. Chefs Jason and Jessie source the freshest possible local ingredients and "Iron Chef" a different killer menu day in and day out. The Food Network will make it difficult for them, but you've got to check it out. Also make sure you check out Seabirds. Stephanie makes such amazing vegan food that you'll consider converting, even if you're a die-hard carnivore.
Yes, I am biased. I'm from Orange County and we're all rooting for our trucks this weekend. Biases aside, I promise you some amazing food if you check them out. I know you're going to want to check out the ones I didn't mention, but please spend just a little more money at The Lime Truck and Seabirds. They're great people and amazing food truck entrepreneurs.
Kind of dumb, especially the KSU bit, since school ends this week, and there will be a ton of traffic, but all LEAVING town. Right on FN! /sarcasm.
Hi, It was 8 trucks. We had 6 arrive in dDenver and Manhatten, KS should see 5. Did Cafe con Leche make it? Check out my post: http://bit.ly/leKIN
Tyler is saying to also use hash tag #GFTR. If you find the Lime Truck, be sure to try their refreshing Lime Aids (and their awesome food, of course). I've got pictures of their food from Vegas and SLC on lookingforfoodtrucks.com
The locations haven't been announced yet, but if you search Twitter this weekend with the hashtag #greatfoodtruckrace, you'll probably find out a few spots. I'll try and update this post when I hear of some locations, as well.
