Chef Alex Pope -- who was the featured chef in a series of interviews on Fat City last week -- has announced that he's officially leaving his
post at the R Bar on Saturday, June 4.
Pope's departure ends a nearly two-year tenure at the saloon,
restaurant and music venue in the West Bottoms. Pope says owner Joy Jacobs
wants to focus more on the music component of R Bar and plans to serve more
casual dishes. "She wants a less fancy menu," Pope says.
Pope's imaginative cuisine inspired The Pitch to honor him last year with the Best Chef award in our annual Best of Kansas City issue.
Pope says he is thinking about opening his own restaurant, but he has no firm plans to do so yet. "Creating my own restaurant has been an idea that I've been considering for some time, but I have no financing or investors yet."
