Shawnee might just be the best spot in town to get a plate of sashimi. Sushi Mido (6010 Nieman) opened at the beginning of this month, only a dozen blocks from the Sakura Japanese Restaurant (7474 Nieman).
Sushi Mido is in the former Asian Breeze space, and just like the Japanese-Chinese fusion of the former occupant, it has a few Chinese dishes, such as crab rangoon and hot-and-sour soup, on the menu.
Sushi Mido has an expansive sushi menu, and it's one that might help lure in vegetarians courtesy of options like the sweet-potato roll. The names appear to be half the fun, and for less adventurous sushi eaters, there's a lot of tempura on the menu, like the Dinosaur, Explosion and Dynamite rolls.
In addition to a la carte menu items, there's an all-you-can eat sushi buffet for $15.95, which includes choice of soup (egg drop, hot-and-sour or miso) or salad and crab rangoon. To celebrate its opening, the Japanese restaurant is running a 20 percent off promotion through June 30.
Sushi Mido is open Tuesday through Sunday, serving lunch and dinner. The restaurant serves lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The hours are the same on Friday (except the dining room is open until 10 p.m.). It's 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Call 913-322-8888 to make a reservation.
