Beth Barden, owner of the Dutch Hill "bruncheonette" Succotash, has opened her "patio" dining area: three outdoor tables on the sidewalk on the west side of the building and another three near the herb garden on the north side. She has also introduced a new menu, featuring new vegetarian and gluten-free choices.

The new meatless items include a mushroom pate with goat cheese, pickled red onion and sun-dried tomato tapenade on a baguette and a "Super Vegan" sandwich of rosemary white-bean puree with portobello mushroom, spinach, sun-dried tomato tapenade, toasted walnuts and slivered red onion on basil-brushed Tuscan bread. A new "Dagweed" -- that's right, Dagweed -- features a house-made mixed-bean burger with spring greens, grilled succotash, tomato and choice of cheese.

The new "Vegan Sink" breakfast includes a choice of one of three types of hummus that is "scrambled" with succotash, roasted peppers, onions, portobello mushrooms, and baby spinach. A "Wild Mushroom Benedict" is vegetarian, not vegan: It tops grilled beer bread with mushrooms, scrambled eggs and wilted spinach, blanketed with hollandaise sauce. Barden is also offering both vegan and gluten-free pancakes.

There are new dishes made with crab, turkey, and poultry as well.

That too.  Service is for sure hit or miss.

I like Succotash's food well enough but don't go often because the service can be a bit lacking and the wait for food remains pretty long, despite the new location.

Personally, I overlook the dingyness of it, though I wouldn't complain if it suddenly appeared cleaned up.  I sort of think some of the menu items are better than others (I've tried a couple of others and like my standard).  I've never had a bad BLT so that's what I get every time.

I can't say that you aren't justified in your comments though "Urban Myth".

I don't care about clean this is KC, but i do agree that succotash is a mixed bag. I always like the staff (although sometimes slow) and the soup pic is cool. Service seems faster at the new location. But i will agree food has always been inconsistent. I have had several good meals there so it is a gamble, but sometimes you win.  My wife does ask me about 50% of the time why do we keep going here so I see where ncum is coming from.

I am still pulling for these guys, they have a lot of good things going for them. I hope they can just get some consistency in the kitchen, and i am excited to try some of their new dishes.

NCAUM, don't be such a ninny. Where do you live? Cleansville, USA? Have you never traveled to New York or San Francisco? Some of the best food in the world is served up in rat infested kitchens.

Let's see, I first started going to Succotash about 5 years ago, when they were in the RiverMarket, and I liked it.  Cool location.  Cool restaurant.  Cool super realistic painting of a girl eating soup

So, I went back.  Many times.

Unfortunately, over the years, the food seemed to get worse.  Almost not good.  Then the place started to look and feel dirty.  So I stopped going... until the moved... then I started going again.  Then it started to taste bad again, and still felt dirty.

Please tell me that I am not alone here, right?  Succotash is dirty, overpriced, and the food isn't that good.  Sorry Succotash, but I would rather eat at the old Corner Diner than at your dive.
