Food & Wine names Glace to list of country's top ice-cream spots

The parking lot at Glace might start featuring a few more out-of-state license plates. The artisan ice-cream shop of chocolatier Christopher Elbow was recently named to Food & Wine's list of the "best ice cream spots in the U.S."

So Kansas City gains another food destination, alongside Oklahoma Joe's, in the national food consciousness, which we hope signals a shift toward recognizing the city not just as a great barbecue town but also a great eating town.

Here's what Food & Wine had to say about Glace, beyond the fact that goat cheese and honey was the shop's signature flavor:

Christopher Elbow is just as boundary-pushing with his ice creams, in flavors like Salted Pretzel and Persian Spice, as he is with his stellar artisan chocolates.
Sweet Action Ice Cream in Denver was the closest to Kansas City, receiving a shout-out for its oatmeal stout. And on your next Ikea trip, mark down the Pumphouse Creamery in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for some sea salt and caramel with praline pecans. A majority of the 25 shops selected are on the East and West coasts.

This is the moment when the world discovers your favorite band, so try

and remember what it was like when you were presented with Elbow's

flavors for the first time -- slack jaws will return to the Glace ice-cream case. Just don't wear a Glace T-shirt to the shop. You're better

than that.

Christopher Elbow could put kitty litter, Raid and old shoe leather in ice cream and make it delicious.  I try to taste a new flavor every time (even though Bananas Foster is my favorite) and I have loved them all. Way to go Glace!

Glace is good, great texture, good flavors, but I still can never get the urge to pony up the money for it.

Guess I'll be the first to point out that Minneapolis is about 180 miles closer to KC than Denver.
That being said, I will certainly be trying the Persian spice flavor at Glace.
