The British are coming. The British are coming. Or, at least, the British-centric concept pub and grill, Mad Dogs British Pub, is coming.
The franchise group, which opened its first location in San Antonio in 1995, is seeking to open three new pubs in Kansas by 2015 -- one each in Wichita, Overland Park and Shawnee Mission. So get ready for fish n' chips, bangers and mash and 'Yards of Ale.'
"We are an authentic, British icon of a franchise that is owned, developed and supported by real Brits," CEO Terry Corless said in a release announcing the expansion plans for Mad Dogs.
Authentic means telephone boxes, cricket gear and bagpipes adorning the walls, servers who dress in kilts and Union Jack dresses, and a gift shop that lets you purchase your own kilt.
It's a concept that sounds familiar to Fox and Hound (10428 Metcalf, Overland Park). It's a place that will focus on live sporting events, drink specials and the occasional work outing. And you'll always leave with a reminder of your visit -- the yard glasses, which range from 18 to 48 ounces and can be filled with anything from soda to frozen cocktails, are yours to take home.
