Guys can sit around and talk about beer forever.
Still, it's not often that you get the chance to chat with the man who actually makes your beer. Boulevard Brewing Company founder John McDonald will be talking at the Kansas City Central Library (14 W. 10th St.) on Wednesday, August 3.
The reception starts at 6 p.m. with free Boulevard beer (the brewery is bringing Wheat, Pale Ale and Pilsner), and the conversation between McDonald and Kansas City Public Library Director Crosby Kemper III begins at 6:30 p.m. The pair will discuss the growth of the Boulevard Brewing Company since McDonald launched it in 1989.
He is speaking as part of the library's ongoing series, Kansas City: Cradle of Entrepreneurs. The event is free, as is parking. You can RSVP online or by calling 816-701-3407.
In other Boulevard news, the latest Smokestack Series -- Nommo Dubbel -- was bottled at the end of last week. Boulevard is going to be bottle conditioning it for a period of two to three weeks with a release later this fall. Nommo replaces the Seeyoulator Doppelbock in the seasonal rotation and, according to the tasting notes, has "a brilliant deep amber color and a sweet caramel malt profile. This beer showcases the coriander, cinnamon and star anise used in the kettle, complementing them with clove and banana notes contributed by the Belgian yeast."
