Chefs compete Saturday in pepper-and-peach throwdown

Posted by on Fri, Aug 26, 2011 at 4:17 PM

Three local culinary personalties — EBT chef Tate Roberts, Em Chamas owner Sam Silvio, and La Bodega (in Leawood) chef Tom Legg — will compete in the first annual "Hatch Chili and Peach Throwdown," presented by the Hen House Market at Interstate 29 and 64th Street. The event is open to the public and begins at 1 p.m.

"The three chefs will each receive roasted hatch peppers and fresh Bader peaches and one surprise ingredient. After they see what they have to work with, they have 10 minutes to shop the store for other ingredients and then 45 minutes to create a dinner entree. The 45 minutes includes plating and presentation," says Ellen Kreimendahl, director of fresh food coordination for the Hen House stores. Restaurateur and radio personality Jasper Mirabile Jr. will serve as emcee for the event.
