The decor is similar to Gordon Biersch's downtown location (where the beer for the Leawood spot is being brewed), and a well-appointed patio should be busy this fall.
The Park Place spot has a host of appetizer specials (from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 p.m. to close every day) and drink specials (all day Sunday through Thursday). You can get a plate of their signature garlic fries or a mini pizza for $5. The crab and artichoke dip and quick fried calamari cost $7. As for drinks, all mojitos are $5 tonight (and every Tuesday), and Gordon Biersch's brews are $2 off on Thursdays and Sundays. A complete list of happy-hour specials is available here.
The lunch and dinner menu is upscale pub food, a mix of sandwiches, salads, pizzas and steaks. If you want to learn how to make the restaurant's Moroccan salmon — corporate chef Bill Heckler was on KSHB Channel 41 last week demonstrating the recipe.
The Park Place location is the restaurant's first in Kansas. The chain, based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, opened its first restaurant in the Kansas City area in the Power & Light District (100 E. 14th St.) in March 2008. The Leawood location will be open every day at 11 a.m. It will close at 11 p.m. Sunday, at midnight Monday through Thursday, and at 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
