The city's hottest restaurant district might just be Westport. One Bite Japanese Grill recently broke the news on Facebook that it will be moving from Overland Park to Westport.

The Japanese restaurant, which has been at 8602 W. 133rd St. for the past five years, will close on Sunday, November 20. The new location will be at 425 Westport Road and will be named Sama Zama.

Westport has been without a Japanese restaurant since Matsu, the previous occupant of the space, closed last November.

Pitch dining critic Charles Ferruzza reviewed One Bite back in 2007 and noted that one bite was not enough; in fact, he dared diners to try and eat just one of anything. The menu is filled with tapas-style dishes, from pan-fried dumplings to bacon-wrapped scallops to Japanese pizza (okonomi-yaki). The restaurant also sells marinades and sauces, including a gluten-free teriyaki and its signature Mogu Mogu sauce (a creamy mayo-based sauce with a bit of heat from red chili).

Owner Erika Koike toldThe Kansas City Star that she wants "to reach out to a more diverse population" and she "thinks our concept appeals more to the downtown area," in explaining the move.
