You don’t have to go over the top to properly celebrate Halloween. Some celebrations offer just the right mix of ridiculous costumes and cheap well drinks. Case in point: Davey’s Uptown. The club’s Halloween party kicks off at 10 p.m. on Saturday when Hearts of Darkness and Pope of Dope are set to take the stage. Admission is $10, or $15 at the door.

Get ready to get scared. Halloween on the Hill comes to Martini Corner on Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets cost $30 in advance (or $40 day of the event), and the VIP premium drink package is $50 (or $60 that day).

It’s American Cheese Month for just another six days. What have you done to properly celebrate? The Shatto Milk Co. can help. The Osborn, Missouri, dairy farm is holding a cheese open house on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sample products and see how they make cheese curds and cheese. While touring the farm, be sure to try the coffee milk, which just came to market two weeks ago.

It’s a whirlwind of cooking demonstrations, celebrity chefs and plenty of good eats at the Hen House Holiday Celebration. The event at the Overland Park Convention Center (6000 College Boulevard, in Overland Park) is today through Sunday. Chef Tyler Florence cooks at 11 a.m. and 12:45 Friday. The exhibition runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $5 at Hen House locations, or $6 at the door.
