President Obama opts for ribs from We B Smokin'

It was the barbecue in Paola, Kansas, that had a turn in the spotlight Tuesday as President Barack Obama stopped at We B Smokin' in the Miami County Airport (32580 Airport Road) after his speech at Osawatomie High School. He was accompanied by Health and Human Services Secretary and former Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.

This wasn't his first taste of the area's barbecue, although it was his first visit to a local joint. Obama had Oklahoma Joe's in 2010, but his staff picked up the order. Oklahoma Joe's marketing director Doug Worgul stated then that the Kansas City, Kansas, joint had fed the Obama campaign twice previously.

If you have not been to We B Smokin', make it your next stop. Only 20 minutes from Olathe. I think the newsmedia in Kansas City really missed out on an opportunity for a great story. This small mom and pop, fully family run, restaurant has been in business 10 years. It is actually the only building at the airport so when you fly in or drive in there is always something to see. It is decked out in Chiefs memorabilia and everyone in the family works from the 86 year old Great Grandma to the Middle school- aged grandkids. Really neat place and amazing bbq and breakfast. President Obama made a good choice I am certain he was not disappointed!
