Lawrence Holiday Farmers Market and other weekend possibilities

Posted by on Fri, Dec 9, 2011 at 8:30 AM

Its pie season in Lawrence.
The Farmers Market in downtown Lawrence moves indoors for its annual Holiday Farmers Market on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event at the Lawrence Holiday Inn (200 McDonald Drive) will have baked goods, jams, frozen food, produce and meat, as well as crafts and clothing. It will be a proper mix of eating, Christmas shopping, and the chance to stock your freezer or pantry for the winter.

The BadSeed Winter Farmers Market is from 4 to 8 p.m. at 1909 McGee tonight. This week is all about meat with organic beef from Wells Family Farms; grass-fed beef, pork and chicken from Parker Farms; and lamb from Green Dirt Farms.

If you haven't had wine with cookies, you’re not living. Jowler Creek (16905 Jowler Creek Rd., in Platte City) is holding a Christmas Cookie and Wine Pairing event the next two weekends: Saturday (December 10 and 17) and Sunday (December 11 and 18) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sample Christmas cookies and Jowler Creek’s Norton wine. The event costs $5.

Even Santa has to eat. It’s Breakfast with Santa on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Renee Kelly’s at Caenen Castle (12401 Johnson Dr., in Shawnee). For $25 ($15 for children), you can stuff yourself on the breakfast buffet and get a photo with Santa. Reservations are required. Call 913-631-4100.

If you eat regularly in Lawrence, you probably found yourself at the Paradise Cafe. Now you can bring a bit of paradise home with you. The Raven Bookstore is hosting a book release party for The Paradise Cafe and Bakery Cookbook on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., which brings back the most-loved recipes from the restaurant that closed its doors in 2004.
