Jack Stack gets some love on the national level.

Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue found itself on an exclusive list last week in a Forbes Magazine piece. Writer Larry Olmsted (he writes a weekly food column for USA Today called Great American Bites) named his meal at Jack Stack one of his top-10 memorable meals of 2011:

Jack Stack is not the best barbecue I have had, and it is not the best in Kansas City (that honor goes to Oklahoma Joe’s). It is one of the best barbecue dining experiences I have ever had, the only successful attempt I’ve seen to merge traditional slow smoked, high quality barbecue with a relatively upscale restaurant aesthetic (sorry Blue Smoke).

While this article might not be immortalized in a plaque on Jack Stack's wall, it's a fairly accurate assessment of the dining experience at the only barbecue joint on the Plaza.

I once ate at Jack Stack and then pooped my pants on the way home. Good food though.

You are kidding right, Jack Stack is hardly the best barbecue in KC let alone memorable, not sure how this happened,I guess since its close to the hotels that's the default place to go.. overpriced kid sized portions and a management team with snobby attitudes especially in the downtown location. Oklahoma Joes should be a destination for that writer next time.

Jack Stack takes way too much crap for being "upscale". The food is damn good. They do everything consistently well. There is something to be said for that. I have never been disappointed in my meal at Jack Stack. I don't get why some people think the hit-or-miss nature of other places is so damn charming.

I like their beans a lot, and when I am entertaining skittish/germaphobic friends or family who wouldn't go to a real joint and I don't have time to do a long cook, I'll take them there. As far as sit-down restaurant/high volume bbq goes, they put out decent enough stuff and have helped me avoid group dinners at Famous Dave's more than once.

Don't get it when it comes to the cheesy corn bake either...bechamel, as much shredded and cream cheeses as you like, frozen corn kernels, seasonings of choice....boom, you've got cheesy corn bake. I know there are a lot of super simple restaurant dishes people go wild for, but I haven't seen a cult following like that since the admins in the executive building at Sprint discovered Blue Chip Cookies.

They are now selling cheesy corn bake at frozen section in Hy-Vee. Never understood why people like it so much.

Jack's Stack a barbecue joint? Don't think so. Soccer moms seem to like the cheesy corn bake though.
