Who's got the best winter comfort food dish in the city?

This is the grilled cheese at the Westside Local.

Great winter comfort food is like a proper sweater for your stomach — it leaves you warm, feeling like the cold can't touch you for just a few minutes. Right now, the Westside Local's grilled cheese fits that niche for me — a gooey pile of brie, emmenthaler and white cheddar between two pieces of Farm to Market sourdough. Then you get to grab one of the hefty triangles and dip it into a small cup of tomato basil soup.

I wouldn't mind another option — there are six other days in the week. Who's got the best winter comfort dish in the city?

I second the motion on the pho from Vietnam Cafe, especially because I can get a kid-sized bowl if I want to have a smaller portion. But the real winner for me is the Mac Daddy from McCoy's.

Second the Westside Local grilled cheese. That was my vote before I even read the article.

When I think of comfort food I don't think about rice or noodles, give me the old kraut, hit me heavy with
German cuisine! Viva la mother land land give me a meal of Krause Eier sie werden im fettbad gebacken, ruhrei mit Geflugelleber! Kansas City cuisine is so lame!

Lately we've been shoveling a ton of pho and steamed rice dishes from Vietnam Cafe into our gaping maws. It's kind of our go-to when the dreary, lazy blahs hit us and we need to get out of the house.

The other night I had the rabbit pot pie at The Rieger, they brought it back for a few days as part of their 1st anniversary celebration. Awesomely comforting....their version but also the pot pie in general.
