Just because you love bowling doesn’t mean you have to sit at home on New Year’s Eve. Diamond Bowl (218 N. Osage, Independence) is hosting a Bowler Bash. From 6 to 9 p.m. is family fun with $10 lanes and shoes. The party gets going from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. It’s a $5 cover, $10 lane and shoes, and you have to be 18 and over. There’s also a $35 VIP tickets, which include cover, bowling, food and drinks.

Lucky Strike (1370 Grand) has an all-inclusive package from 8 to 10 p.m. For $35 per person or $60 per couple, you get a call bar, appetizer buffet and free bowling. If you want to bowl after 10 p.m., it’s a $15 cover in advance and $20 at the door.

You don’t have to stand in one place for four hours and stare up at the backsides of police horses to see a ball drop on New Year’s Eve. The Power & Light District has a ball drop at midnight, a whole-pig roast at PBR Big Sky and a Garozzo’s buffet at Howl at the Moon. Tickets cost $85 before December 30 ($150 for couples) and $95 on December 31.

If you can’t make up your mind exactly where to go, Martini Corner is hosting a “Countdown at the Corner.” A $75 general-admission ticket gets you into all five bars — Velvet Dog, Sol Cantina, the Drop, Tower Tavern and the Monaco — and includes domestic beer, house wine and cocktails. If you make it $100, you get the beer of your choice and a few additional spirits (Maker’s Mark and Grey Goose among them).

Your New Year’s Eve celebration doesn’t have to start at night. Missie B’s (805 W. 39th St.) opens at noon Saturday and won’t close for another 15 hours. The Westport club will have music both upstairs and downstairs, as well as a drag show. The cover is $6, which includes a wine toast at midnight.

The American isn’t just a special-occasion restaurant, but that doesn’t mean it isn't an outstanding option for special occasions. The Crown Center institution has a three-course dinner (with seatings at 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.) for $65 or a five-course dinner ($125) with seatings at 8:30 p.m., 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The American will have a dance floor, live music and champagne toast, as well. You can also package your dinner with the Rock the Clock New Year’s Eve Celebration at Union Station. There are two packages: The first is $260 per couple and includes a three-course dinner, entry into the Sprint festival plaza party area and two drink tickets; for $50 more, you can have unlimited drinks.

What are your plans for Saturday night?
