So assuming that food is the reason for a given trip and not a diversion, what's your next food trip (plane, train or car ride) outside Kansas City?

Being from Chicago I would make that drive in a heartbeat for all of my favorite foods, but Trotter's is worth the drive. It was easily the best degustation menu I've ever had from an American restaurant, the caveat being I have eaten at French Laundry or Le Bernadin. It was even better than Alinea, the 3 Michelin star restaurant in Chicago, which was more creative by a mile but less satisfying to eat.
Back to The Boiler Room in Omaha in February or March...easy drive and well worth it. Highly recommended to anyone else whose precious heart goes pitter-pat at the sound of "farm to table".
We moved from KC to Lexington KY about a year and a half ago. It's a 10 hour road trip through a lot of nothin.
Just North of Evansville, Indiana is an Amish buffet, Stoll's. It ain't Bluestem, but it's fried food heaven. Fried chicken and pork chops. Good baked goods and homemade noodles as well. It's a quick, easy stop on the highway and is light years better than cracker barrel.
I did know Dixie Quicks has moved to Council Bluffs and I am very excited to see the new place. The food is divine and Buffy is a great waiter.
End of February we are headed to Hong Kong & Singapore, looking forward to that food road trip. Thank you for the nod Dixie Quicks. The owner/chef is my step brother and in case you didn't know, Dixie Quicks is now located in Co. Bluffs.
I don't go just for this but when I'm in Los Angeles I do make time for a trip to Canter's Deli on Fairfax and get a pastrami on rye. Best ever.
New York for soup dumplings from Joe's Shanghai, Rice pudding from Rice to Riches, Fried Risotto balls from Eataly, and a burger from Burger Guru.
