Enough time has passed that you can forget about your New Year’s resolutions. Let off a little steam at the Ozanam Guild’s Second Fridays at Sol Cantina (408 East 31st Street). The benefit on Friday in Martini Corner runs from 6 to 8 p.m., and a $15 donation includes drinks and appetizers. All of the proceeds benefit Ozanam.
It’s easy to get stuck in a cocktail rut — finding yourself ordering the same, safe drink on weekend nights. The Westport Café & Bar (419 Westport Road) can help you break free from the chains of a boring vodka tonic with bartenders who are easygoing and determined to help you find your next favorite drink. It doesn’t hurt that the WCB has eight new cocktails, each priced at $8, and serves until 1:30 a.m. Those who are hungry late will also appreciate that the kitchen serves food until 1 a.m. Think about getting the Winter Smash (Buffalo Trace bourbon, lemon juice, cinnamon-pepper syrup, fresh peach and mint) or the Bitter Spirit (Angostura and Peychaud’s bitters, lemon, simple syrup and egg whites).
Too often, baked goods look better than they taste. But the culinary students at Broadmoor Bistro (6701 West 83rd Street, Overland Park) have mastered the art of making treats that look and taste good. Broadmoor Baking Fridays are back because school is in session, and the next one is slated for today. Stock up on breads, cakes, lemon bars and croissants. The bake sale starts at 2:30 p.m. in the Broadmoor lobby. The other sale dates this semester are January 27, February 17, March 23 and April 13.
