Up until last week, you would have needed to embark on a fairly serious road trip if you were feeling like a sip of Deschutes' Black Butte Porter. You might still have to gas up the car, but the trip will be a lot shorter this evening when All Star Pizza & Pub (6100 NW 63rd Terrace) hosts the brewery tonight for a tasting of its beers from 6 to 9 p.m.

All Star will be tapping a keg of Abyss 2011 and Black Butte XXIII — the Abyss is the one you want to try — and will have Hop Henge IPA, Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale on tap, as well. Brewmaster Brian Faivre will be on hand to talk about the brewery from Bend, Oregon. Deschutes' beers arrived in the Kansas City market last week after originally being scheduled for release last summer.

After two, they all taste like beer to me.

I disagree the Black Butte XXIII is the one you want to not miss. Oak aged Black Butte. It you think Abyss is the one not to miss, then well you have never tried the Black Butte 23. Shame on you for going for the obvious choice.

Sounds cool. All Star has some great pizza and a huge on-tap beer selection. If I wasn't busy I'd surely go.
