The best part of any Super Bowl is often the food. Get started early with a Pre-Super Bowl Wine Party, sponsored by Off the Vine, at Lakeside Tavern in Mission Farms (10551 Mission), from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight. The tasting costs $15 per person and includes six wines paired with six appetizers. Reservations are required.
You may be trying to eat more local foods, but did you know that you can also drink local? Kansas City’s urban winery, Amigoni, is holding a release party for its new 2010 Mourvedre, from 4 to 7 p.m. tonight at the Genessee Royale Bistro (1531 Genessee). The restaurant will be selling the wine by the glass ($5) and have a special tasting menu paired to the vintage. Bottles will be available from Amigoni for $18 (they regularly sell for $22).
If you've spent any time with servers, you know the restaurant world is full of entertaining characters and enjoyable stories. Hear a few, courtesy of former and current servers, at The Writers Place (3607 Pennsylvania) at 7 p.m. tonight. "I'll Be Your Server Tonight," hosted by Fat City's Charles Ferruzza and server David Hayden, will feature readings from bartenders and servers.
Kansas City Restaurant Week began today. The dining extravaganza runs through Sunday, January 29. This is the third year for the 10-day event, which features prix fixe lunches and dinners at more than 100 area restaurants (Room 39, Nica’s 320 and Le Fou Frog, among them). KC Restaurant Week is also a benefit for Harvesters, with 10 percent of each meal’s purchase price going to the community food bank. Lunch costs $15 per person, and dinner is $30. Reservations can be made online.
Where are you headed this weekend?
