Anybody had a memorable Restaurant Week meal?

Bacon-wrapped shrimp at J.J.s look tasty.
We humans are not only hard-wired to eat, but we also want to talk about our food. Now that you've had a few bites at Kansas City Restaurant Week, here's an opportunity to talk about what plates are special and which might not need to stick around after this week. So, who has had a dish worth talking about?

I had the most wonderful experience at Ruth's Chris the first night of Restaurant Week 1/20. It was a birthday celebration and they made it very special. We were seated right away to a table that was prepped for a celebration...we told them in advance. A birthday card from the restaurant was waiting on the table, along with sprinkles of colorful glitter. The service and the food was some of the best I have ever had! There was a candle on my desert but no tacky singing...it was perfect!

My friend had reservations at Fogo de Chao on saturday at 9, he didn't get seated until 10:30

Restaurant week is just a way to get the JoCo crowd to spend a few dollars at somewhere not called Red Robin or Olive Garden

Not a restaurant week meal, but I would obviously never let that stop me from rambling.... Saturday night at 715 in Lawrence was totally outstanding. I'll be making that drive often.

And before I have people showing me pictures of malnourished children to guilt me after my next statement, I give my word that I will make a donation to Harvesters in lieu of visiting a restaurant on this year's list.....

I think Harvester's is a fantastic and worthy organization to support. Back in the church days my food pantry fed a LOT of people with our weekly trips to pick up food, the place is well run. But in my experience with Restaurant Week, similar to the previous comment, it's too much like dealing with the last night before a Groupon expires. Lots of people mobbing the place who probably won't come back to visit at full price, and many of the higher end restaurants forced to put out a multi-course meal for $30 that won't be the greatest advertisement of what they can do. I'd never fault a restaurant for supporting a charity and getting their name out there...do support Harvesters and promote the community spirit the KC food scene is famous for....I'm just happier to have a reminder to put my money where my mouth is, write a check, and go back to my regular rotation once the dust settles.

Went to Blanc on Saturday night...1 hour 10 minute wait...not worth it. Went to Guadalajara Cafe as a backup spot and had the best Chile Relleno I've ever had...it was grilled--not fried, smothered in a spicy Diablo sauce, and stuffed with shrimp and cheese. Superb service and no waiting...kudos!
