Natural Grocers will be located in a neighboring shopping center to the Whole Foods Market at 7401 West 91st Street. While both stores focus on organic produce, vitamins, supplements, and grass-fed beef, Natural Grocers doesn't stock prepared foods and is known for catering to those with specialty diets such as vegan or gluten-free.
The store in Lawrence opened in a former Burger King location at 1301 W. 23rd St. on November 11 last year. It was the first Kansas store for the Colorado-based chain, with a Wichita store opening two weeks later.
Natural Grocers' stores also feature a health coach who can help with meal planning and shopping if you have dietary restrictions. The stores hold nutrition and cooking classes, as well. The chain has been successful building on the idea that health food can be affordable. Has anybody had the opportunity to shop at a Natural Grocers?

@KCFoodCircle. Natural Grocers has a submission form on its website for new products, which is where local producers/growers are directed. For what it's worth; it does have a stated commitment to supporting local growers on its site, as well. http://www.naturalgrocers.com/products/nat…
are you people stupid? ya wanna open a store and make money? go where the freakin money is...and that's joco (in this case)...not midtown kc......
Greater Kansas City is experiencing retail expansion. Many of the new construction projects are anchored by grocery store expansions or involve relocations such as AWG, Price Chopper, HyVee, Aldi, Walmart Neighborhood Market, as well as two new Trader Joe’s that occupy existing buildings. This is Trader Joe’s first entry into the local market. Other large national retailers expanding in the Kansas City area include Walmart, Sam’s Club, T.J. Maxx, PetSmart, and buybuyBaby.
National retailers who recently entered the area include H&M, Nordstrom Rack and Trader Joe’s. A few chains looking to expand into the Kansas City market include Ross Dress for Less and Menards.
Restaurants continue to gobble up available pad sites throughout the area and have been very active in new construction and renovation. Some of the active restaurant chains in the include Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Chick-fil-A, Jack in the Box, Logan’s Roadhouse and I-Hop.
The new owners re-opened the old Wild Oats at 43rd and Main as Nature's Own Market a couple of years ago.
Food circle web minion-Thats a good question, and one Bender obviously forgot to ask.
That is if he actually interviewd anyone.
It sounds like a fantastic store, but it doesn't seem like a smart business decision to be moving into that location with Whole Foods being right there; not to mention the Hy-Vee and Walmart Market that are also at that intersection. There are so many other areas of town that lack health food stores. First thought coming to my mind is the building that used to house Wild Oats in Mission, that would seem more fitting, but really, anywhere would be a better choice then the location they have chosen.
Andy--I wish I knew. I love Trader Joe's, but would love to have an actual health food store right here in KC MO proper. Locally owned would be great. I'm new to the area, so it's possible that I've just missed something--any recommendations for health food stores close to Waldo/Brookside?
Wasn't there supposed to be a natural foods store opening on Main where whole foods used to be?
This place is great. It's comparable to Trader Joe's prices. I live in Lawrence and it's quite a bit cheaper than the only other place to go, The Merc. I love it!
