Boulevard has a handy beer finder. On Tap KC is a repository of sightings. KC Beer Blog has been on this early and has a list of tappings around town. (The Foundry, Charlie Hooper's and the Flying Saucer are all tapping kegs today.) And because this is an open thread, kindly leave information in the comments on where you found some, what it set you back, and if there's more for fellow Chocolate Ale seekers.

Id have to agree with that statement. I got one bottle, bc i didnt get to try it last year, took a drink, and refused to go on a treasure hunt after that. Got my hands on a glass at a bar, and it was great. So glad i didnt go crazy for bottles, hopefully they are taking note and will make the bottles better next year
BLVD FAILED TO PROVIDE A GOOD PRODUCT IN THE BOTTLE THIS YEAR. IT WAS HORRIBLE COMPARED TO LAST YEAR. IT IS ONLY GOOD ON TAP, NOT IN BOTTLE, ALL YOU SUCKERS THAT WENT CRAZY TO GET IT.....LOL BEER SUCKS ASS
hey, i have a few extra bottles. willing to meet in joplin , MO

To those bitching of flagging the sale on Craigslist or Ebay SUCK IT. Why are you flagging it?
Stone Canyon Pizza at Zona Rosa taps their Boulevard Chocolate Ale at 5pm on Thursday the 2nd. Get it before it's gone!
KC Beer Blog has a near complete list of restaurants with it on tap. If anyone has info with liquor stores/grocery stores receiving shipments the next two days please post up!
If you need anymore proof KC got the short straw, my friend in Denver went and bought four bottles yesterday. Said there were a dozen cases sitting around. Obviously the beer market is more saturated there, but goes to show Boulevard put out of towners ahead of loyal KC fans.
Anyways, it doesn't matter because Schlafly gets most of my business.
Anyone know of any stores that get shipments in today or Friday. Still desperately searching for some.
A pallet or two of beer is not 50% of their product. They made somewhere in the neighborhood of 4400 cases, which is 52,800 bottles. You're talking 40-50 cases max on a pallet, so I'd hardly call 100 cases of beer 50%, when in actuality it's only 2.27%.
The reason I know is because I actually know and speak with people who work at Boulevard. People who know their target markets and know where the beer is going that they produced.
Now, your high-level friend as CSBev might have misspoke, or you might not have understood him. It's completely possible that 50% of all Chocolate Ale went to OTHER CITIES, with some going to Boston, but it's ludicrous to believe for millisecond that they'd send 26,400 bottles, or 2200 cases, or 44 pallets, or 4 semi trucks full of Chocolate Ale to Boston.
Just sayin'...
If you don't work for the brewery or distributor then how do you know any better than I do? You seem as certain as I did in my info I got from an high up employee at the distribution company. Believe what I heard or not, but at least my claim has more credence than yours.
It is a known fact Boulevard is trying to expand up and down the east coast. Hearing what I heard made sense, as a pallet or two of Chocolate Ale might entice buyers out there to buy more Boulevard in the future.
Hey KC > Boston, your comment about "Half of the Chocolate Ale production is ending up in the Greater Boston area because they are trying to expand to the east coast" is the biggest load of bull I've read in a long time.
Where do you people come from who make up such asinine figures? Your statement is 100% false. Please quit making up stuff that makes Boulevard look bad. I understand if you're upset because you didn't get a bottle, but your friend's roommate's ex-girlfriends step brother who sweeps the floors of a middle school isn't exactly a "distribution industry talking head". The folks who handle local distribution have zero, zilch, nada information as to what a distributor in Boston got.
And to answer the question that's going through your head, no, I don't work for the brewery and no I don't work for a distributor.
This is Boulevard's best marketing campaign by far. They simply announce a release date and KC freaks out, gets all lathered up and acts like its Black Friday at their nearest liquor store.
Went to an alumni event at Johnny's in OP last night and was violated for $8/pint. I felt stupid, confused. It tasted like last year's batch. I'm a hop-head, a proud drinker of Hop Stoopid, Hopslam and other real beers. I still can't embrace chocolate in my beer. It's a conversation piece. I really wish Boulevard would expand their hop-centric stuff and launch more new brews.
Talked to a guy that works in the beer distribution industry. Half of the Chocolate Ale production is ending up in the Greater Boston area because they are trying to expand to the east coast.
So yeah, fuck Boulevard.
I understand that Boulevard did not anticipate the high level of demand last year, but what's the excuse for simply not brewing enough this year? This is seeming more and more like a publicity stunt, and it leaves me thinking less of Boulevard in general.
I was lucky and got a couple bottles. I've heard Royal Liquor in Brookside held back some cases, to sell at 5:00 p.m. If you need to try it, and can't get a bottle, I'd call around, find a place that has it on tap. Flying Saucer downtown I know has it on tap right now (at $7 a glass). I think it's interesting, but not work $50 (or insanely more) a bottle. Your life will still be complete if you never get to try it.
Royal Liquors at 103rd just told me (4:15 PM) that there's a longer line outside than Chocolate Ale inside... and no additional shipments scheduled.
It's already on eBay and Craigs and people are stupid enough to bid on it. One silly little fellar is asking $300/bottle. Although all of the craigs listings have been flagged and removed. Good call CL! Hopefully eBay follows suit.
Just went and bought a tank 7. While there a guy was looking for chocolate ale, he had no idea who even made the beer. What a jack wagon. Also, while leaving with my bottle in hand a man saw me with my bag and sprinted in to get his chocolate... To bad the store was out. Don't these people have things to do besides drive around all day?
Lukas Liquors on metcalf just got their second shipment of close to 100 cases..get there quick.
I like beer, but I dont like chocolate, so all you chocolate ale freaks can have at it.
I prefer a bottle of Stone Hill Norton, or a full-bodied red zin.
Yeah jjs, I was never a beer drinker, but the addition of Christopher Elbow may have led me astray and the chocolate and alcohol combo would have had me screaming "I'M THE KING OF DIABETES!" in no time.
Zeeman - Actually, what's made this so frenzied is that it's NOT just the beer geek crowd. It's all types of people, including those who don't usually drink beer at all.
Not sure which is worse—people traversing the metro looking for it, or the entitled beer-snobs telling everyone that they don’t know good beer.
People are actually camping out in front of stores waiting for them to open. What a bunch of dorks. Well done Boulevard, you've made ordinary people turn into homeless crackheads waiting for their 9am shooters of gin.
If you are an idiot... ya you know if you are. Get on Criagslist and buy some assholes bottles. I am sure you could walk away $50 poorer and still not know the difference between good beer and PBR. Keep the good beer for those of us that care.
That's right, fat plebs, lap up the chocolate ale today and go back to your white zin & McCormick Vodka tomorrow.
Liquor stores big and small that carry Smokestack Series beers will receive an allotment of Chocolate Ale. If you don't know what that sentence means, you may want to consider staying home and letting people who actually like beer buy this stuff.
Just got a bottle from Hyvee on Barry Rd by St. Lukes Northland hospital. They had a few cases left so if you can get there ASAP you may be able to get one. Hyvee on NW 64th street and 29 was sold out. The HyVee on North Oak and Englewood wasn't getting theirs until later today, around 4. Also stopped at Red X in Riverside- they aren't getting their shipment until Thursday but they are doing a waiting list so you can call and get on that.
I just looked at Boulevard Beer's website. Of the 14 Smokestack Beers listed as 'current', Chocolate Ale is probably my 11th favorite. So do yourself a favor during your one visit this year to a nice liquor store: pick up a bottle of Sixth Glass or Tank 7 while you're in line. And come back out when Saison Brett or Imperial Stout get released. You may be surprised how much you like them.
Hey Derik, check out the Boulevard beer finder. I wish I lived near you cause you got about 4 stores near you while the Northland has nothing anywhere close
I was able to buy two bottles this morning no problems but they didn't have mnay cases left when I got there. Tipsys in Mission, Ks .
Dont bother with Royal. They do a good job of letting you know what comes in and they have a great selection but they are always over charging. Its a shame.
All I say is practice good beer karma. As Abe said don't buy more than you need or it will come back and bite you one day. It shouldn't be quite as tough to get as last year. Some of the smaller stores are getting up to three cases whereas last year they only had one.
It's good beer, but it's not worth the effort to fight through assholes buying up cases of it or waiting in line at 8am for the store to open up.
$10.76 with tax at Royal on 103rd and St. Line. They are releasing more between 5 and 5:30 for the after work crowd.
