The pickings are apparently pretty slim in Kansas and Missouri if you're looking for the best meal in America. The Daily Meal has released its 101 Best Restaurants in America, and the only spot to make the list from the other side of the state line was Arthur Bryant's at No. 48. Le Bernadin was named the top restaurant in the country — one of five New York City joints among the top 10 selections.

Here's what The Daily Meal had to say about the barbecue institution:

There's a long line inside this fluorescent-lit, linoleum-floored barbecue joint, and you'd better know what you want when you get up to that glass window — or be able to figure it out fast — because it's hot back there, and they don't suffer fools lightly. But when you get that plate full of meat with those soft, square slices of white bread and sit down with a bottle of sauce and dig in, it's bound to be one of those meals you're always going to remember.

Great food is apparently the great equalizer because this is one selection based on the eats, rather than the decor. Arthur Bryant's was 18th on last year's list.
