The best spot in the city to watch the St. Patrick’s Day parade could be at Pints for Paws, the benefit for the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City. The brunch and parade watch party is at the Uptown Theater (3700 Broadway) this year. The brunch runs from 8 to 11 a.m., and the watch party is between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Roz and bagpiper John Tootle are set to perform. General-admission tickets, which include four tickets for beer and a hot brunch buffet, are $50. VIP tickets, which include signature cocktails and access to an outdoor patio and the second floor for parade watching, are $65.
Brown-bag lunches get a bad name, but once a month, brown-bag lunches are the classiest lunches in the city. Today, the Westport Center for the Arts holds the latest iteration of its monthly series of Brown Bag Concerts, featuring Rebecca Bell & Marian Thomas. The free noon concerts, now in their 18th season, last an hour and come with cookies and coffee. The pair of harpsichordists will be performing selections from Johann Sebastian Bach at the Immanuel Lutheran Church (1700 Westport Road). You’ve just got to bring your own brown-bag lunch.
If you’ve got a hankering for corned beef and cabbage, Chaz on the Plaza can satisfy that craving. The restaurant in the Raphael Hotel (325 Ward Parkway) will be serving corned beef, cabbage, boiled potatoes and soda bread on Saturday and Sunday for $13. Dorian’s Wheel will be performing Irish ballads and jigs in the Chaz Lounge on Friday.
You don’t need a green thumb to have a beautiful garden. The 64th annual Greater Kansas City Home Show and Flower, Lawn & Garden Show, is at Bartle Hall (301 West 13th Street) today through Sunday. In addition to exhibits and vendors, there are talks and demonstrations on growing container gardens, edible landscaping and organic gardening. The show is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $8 online or $10 in person (kids 12 and younger get in free).
