Get ready to start planning meals because a number of farmers markets are having their season-opening sales this Saturday. The Brookside Farmers' Market (63rd Street and Wornall) kicks off its 10th season in the parking lot of the Border Star Montessori School from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Olathe Farmers' Market (200 West Santa Fe, in downtown Olathe) opens for the first time at 8 a.m. Saturday. The vendors stay until they're sold out, which is typically around lunchtime. The Wednesday market in Olathe kicks off June 6 (and opens at 3 p.m.). The Overland Park Farmers' Market (at Marty between 79th and 80th streets) is open from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an Earth Day celebration this Saturday at the Clock Tower from 9 a.m. to noon. The Downtown Lee's Summit Farmers Market (at Second and Douglas) has been going since April 7. It's open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Attention, Jimmy Buffett fans, you are not alone you are many. And you are ready to party. The second annual KC Parrot Fest, a gathering of Buffett fanatics, is set for Saturday at KC Live in the Power & Light District. The free all-ages event starts at noon and includes a beach barbecue, tropical drinks and live bands (Parrots of the Caribbean play at 1 p.m.).
