Midwest Living tested 130 burgers en route to naming its 25 best burgers in the Midwest. Two Kansas City establishments made the list: the Westport Flea Market and Blanc Burgers + Bottles.
Midwest Living ranked the burgers based on taste, appearance, bread and toppings, and whether they were cooked to order properly. Beyond the burgers, the magazine was the rare patron that delved into the patty melt at the Westport Flea Market:
Interior decor is not its claim to fame - calling it weathered would be accurate - but for 30 years, patrons have flocked here to order one of three burgers: a 5.5-ounce Mini ($6.49), a 10-ounce Burger ($7.99) or a Patty Melt ($7.65). Pick from five cheeses and fall for the McGonigle beef with the first hot bite.
In addition to the Kansas City selections, Midwest Living picked Harry's in Manhattan, Kansas, and Local Burger in Lawrence. The Cozy Inn in Salina, Kansas, received an honorable mention.
