When Fat City first reported - in December of 2010 - that restaurateur Richard Ng was moving his Plaza location across Brush Creek (from the Board of Trade Building at 4800 Main to the Skelly Building at 605 West 47th Street), Ng was hoping to have the new venue completed in 2011. Last September, Richard Ng told Fat City that "things were taking a little longer than we anticipated," but predicted the restaurant would be open for Chinese New Year of 2012.
The new kitchen looks twice as big as the one in the Board of Trade, but Ng says it's the same size: "It's just laid out more efficiently."
The glamorous new Bo Lings will give Richard and Theresa Ng - two of the most successful restaurateurs in the metro - the opportunity to go head-to-head with the Arizona-based P.F. Chang's China Bistro, which is a couple of blocks east of the Skelly Building. Bo Lings loyalists kept the Board of Trade location popular for years, but P.F. Chang's was a draw for Plaza tourists who rarely venture past Brush Creek.
"It takes a long time to turn a floor of offices into a restaurant," says Rostenberg, explaining why the new Bo Lings has taken so long to open.
The Board of Trade location had been a series of restaurants, including the Buttonwood Tree and the Colony Steakhouse and Lobster Pot, before Ng opened his second Bo Lings.
