According to the "Help Wanted" Craigslist ad posted by the Royal Buffet restaurant at 8725 Metcalf (it's spelled Mertcalf in the ad), the new tenant of the former Fuddruckers location is planning to be open today - Thursday, June 7 - but it's hard to get that verified because the multicultural buffet doesn't have a working phone listing (or didn't as of yesterday evening). But hell, who needs a land line if the restaurant isn't open yet, right?
It's no longer acceptable for a Chinese buffet to focus merely on Asian-American cuisine. Perhaps inspired by the local casino buffet restaurants, which offer a United Nations-style array of
mediocre culinary delicacies, modern buffets must expand their vision beyond General Tso's chicken and hot-and-sour soup. The fare at Royal Buffet - according to the sign in front of the joint - offers Italian dishes, barbecue, sushi and steaks.
The owners are expecting business to be brisk. The help-wanted ad says, "The waiters/waitress charge customers at their tables so most customers pay good tips."
It's not like Metcalf (or Mertcalf) is exactly hurting for a new buffet restaurant. There's already the China Star Super Buffet at 9421 Metcalf and Joy Wok Chinese Buffet at 11920 Metcalf. There's also Cinzetti's Italian buffet at 91st and Metcalf - right near the lunch buffet at Masalas Indian restaurant.
Don't be hungry; just pick up a tray.
