If you were thinking about a day trip to Weston, this is probably the weekend to do it. The Second Saturday of every month (July 14, in this case), there are late-night shopping specials from 4 to 7 p.m., plus beer from the Weston Brewing Co. and wine from the Pirtle Winery in downtown Weston. In addition, the annual Weston Sizzlers BBQ Festival (which includes a Pirtle Apple Wine challenge) is both Saturday, July 14, and Sunday, July 15, with live music on Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight.
Tonight's the last night the carnival is in town: Vagabond 5.0 - An Urban Carnival, winds up the calliope for one more shot at its whimsical, upscale take on carnival food at the City Market. The big top opens up at 6 p.m. Tickets are $70.
The couples who eat burgers together stay together, at least until the wine is finished. Blanc Burgers + Bottles recently launched date night on Monday nights at its Mission Farms location (10583 Mission) in Leawood. Each couple splits one starter (go with the Shatto cheese curds) and one side (fries or Boulevard Pale Ale onion rings), two burgers and a bottle of red or white wine, for $35.95 per couple.
