
Picnics lacking a little oomph these days? Then it’s time you visited the third annual Summer Bash at the Wine Barn Winery (2850 N. 119th St.). The Kansas City, Kansas, winery is holding a great big barbecue from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday with live music by the George Angilan Band. The cover is $5 per person.
If you want to learn how to make wine, the 149th annual Platte County Fair has you covered. There's a winemaking class Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Finally you may learn what wine to pair with funnel cakes and corn dogs. The winemaking class is $10, on top of the $10 admission to the fair.
The modern-day version of turning water into wine will happen for the sixth consecutive year as Excelsior Springs, best known for the Hall of Waters, hosts the sixth annual Missouri Wine Festival Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. More than a dozen wineries will have vintages to try on the back lawn of the historic Elms Resort & Spa (401 Regent Street). Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the gate.
