Shanita McAfee, the chef and owner of the intimate Magnolia's Contemporary Southern Bistro (2932 Cherry, 816-531-2882), will share her love for ripe, juicy Missouri peaches when she teams with Amigoni Urban Winery for a "Peach Festival and Wine Dinner" to be hosted at Magnolia's on Saturday, August 18, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The six-course meal, paired with Amigoni wines, is priced at $75 per person.
"I like experimenting with single ingredients," McAfee says. "I had wanted to do something special with summer peaches and wines, but I had never heard of the Amigoni vineyard until recently. So I met with them, and we talked about the menu, and I think we've come up with something special."
The meal August 18 will begin with a cocktail hour featuring light appetizers and a chilled white peach sangria (made with Amigoni Viognier). Once seated, diners will be served a grilled romaine and peach salad with a buttermilk blue-cheese dressing (paired with Amigoni Urban Bianco).
This course will be followed by a formal appetizer course: a wonton stuffed with crab and grilled peaches and served
with a spicy peach ginger and jalapeño glaze (paired with Amagoni Viognier). The third course will be a catfish roulade with peach stuffing, draped in a peach whiskey beurre blanc (paired with Amigoni Urban White); the fourth course will be a light palate cleanser: a peach champagne and fresh mint shooter.
The next course will be a grilled beef tenderloin atop a crisp potato pancake with a roasted peach and port sauce, paired with Amigoni Cabernet Sauvignon. The dolce course will be a peach-and-candied-fennel upside-down cake, sided with grilled peach and brandy ice cream and paired with Amigoni Cabernet Franc.
Reservations are still available for the August 18 dinner by calling the restaurant at 816-531-2882. In November, McAfee plans to host a wine-and-chocolate dinner at Magnolia's.
