Slow down. I'm referring to the dressing of my lunch, not my attire. The sausages, courtesy of the Local Pig, outshine the house-made toppings. Two come free with your order. While the grilled onions and sauerkraut were fine, their tepid temperature and the contrast with the flavor of the sausage meant they weren't bringing anything to this sandwich.
The fries, however, were a great addition. They were hand-cut and No. 2-pencil thick. Skin on, they had a nice crunchy exterior. If you're going to stake your place on a few choices, those need to come out right, and the hot, crispy spuds were most definitely right. A small ($2.50) was more than enough for two people.Lunch isn't cheap; the prices are the same both day and night. If you add on a beer, most are in the $6 to $8 range, and with fries you're looking at a $20 meal at least with tip. You'll also leave full, likely unable to finish both the taters and weiner. So call it a fancy picnic, throw on some gingham and go eat a sausage.
