This weekend is the last time to let loose at a masked ball while holding a turkey leg. Well, at least until next year’s Kansas City Renaissance Festival (633 North 130th Street, in Bonner Springs). It’s a Mystical Masquerade on the fair’s final weekend. Drink mead and enjoy ye olde fried foods 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets cost $9.95-$69.95.
Food may take different forms, but the need for it is one thing that all humankind has in common. People from different faiths can gather at Food and Thought, "an interfaith and intercultural conversation," Sunday at Sikh Temple Gurdwara Sahib (6834 Pflumm, in Shawnee). Take part in dialogue and dining from 3 to 5 p.m. Participants will be eating “langar” style, on the floor (but may request a chair if preferred). The event is free, but you must make a reservation. Leave a message at 913-548-2973 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your soul needs a reboot, and you can get it at the 2012 Rhythm & Ribs Jazz & Blues Festival Saturday with food and merchandise vendors and lots of music. The event, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. in the 18th & Vine Jazz District, is organized by the American Jazz Museum. The McFadden Brothers, Brian McKnight and Arturo Sandoval are among the acts set to take the stage. Tickets start at $10 (plus fees). VIP tickets cost $75.
