Freebirds opens in Westport next Thursday

Burritos and nachos are coming back to Westport. Freebirds World Burritos will hold its grand opening Thursday, October 25, in the former Chili's space at 554 Westport Road. The first 25 people in line (you'll probably have to camp out to be included in that group) receive free burritos for a year.

If you're not the tent-going kind, there are two preview events in the beginning of next week. On Monday, a minimum $5 donation to Kansas City Chalk Walk gets the first 250 diners food and drinks 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. On Tuesday, the same deal and hours apply, but the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the beneficiary.

Freebirds opened its first area location in Mission (6029 Metcalf) this past July, and earlier this year, The Pitch's David Hudnall had a chance to sample its fare while in Austin, Texas, for South By Southwest.

This is the first location in Missouri for the Austin-based chain. Freebirds in Westport will be open from 10:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10:30 a.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday, and 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday. The phone number is 816-561-0915.
