The Kansas City Library is holding its used cookbook sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Plaza Branch (4801 Main). Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library. Author Pete Dulin will also be on-site to sign copies of his new book, Last Bite, from 10 to 11 a.m.
Even before there was the small-plates concept, there was dim sum. Executive Chef Sophia Chatfield teaches a hands-on dim sum class at the Culinary Center of Kansas City on Saturday. Learn how to make pork dumplings, stuffed eggplant, and chicken and rice porridge. However, you'll have to figure out how to wheel the little metal cart around your own kitchen. The class runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and costs $60.
The odds of your throwing on a pair of bike shorts and competing for the yellow jersey in France are probably not that good. You can spend considerably less effort and money by simply making a reservation for the Tour de France wine dinner at Affare (1911 Main) on Monday. The five-course meal, which starts at 6:30 p.m., includes lobster salad with melon frisee and honey dressing, slow-cooked wild boar loin served on roasted squash, and cambozola with pear and red-onion marmalade. Dinner costs $75 per person. Make a reservation by calling 816-298-6182.
