Not everyone wants to make Christmas dinner. But there aren't a lot of restaurants open December 25, including many Chinese restaurants (no matter what the movie A Christmas Story suggests). The six Bo Lings restaurants in the metro will be open Christmas Eve from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. None of the Bo Lings restaurants will be open Christmas Day. The New Peking Restaurant in Westport (540 Westport Road, 816-531-6969) will be open on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Fusion Buffet in Westport (4039 Mill Street, 816-960-6598) will be open on Christmas Day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Hong's Buffet and Mongolian Grill (6151 N.W. Barry Road, 816-741-9494) will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Calypso Buffet at the Isle of Capri Casino (1800 East Front Street, 816-855-7777) will be open on Christmas Day, serving breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. The Horizon's Buffet at the Ameristar Casino (3200 N. Ameristar Drive, 816-414-7000 - one of the most elaborate in the city - will serve continuously on Christmas Day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Tannin Wine Bar & Kitchen (1526 Walnut, 816-842-2660) will be serving food from 4 p.m. to midnight.

The M&S Grill on the Country Club Plaza (4646 J.C. Nichols Parkway, 816-531-7799) will be serving from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The restaurant and bar at the President Hotel (1329 Baltimore, 816-221-9490), the Providence New American Kitchen and the Drum Room Lounge , respectively, will be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. - serving from both the dinner menu as well as a special prime rib dinner, priced at $24.95, that includes a 12-ounce slab of prime rib, au jus and roasted mashed potatoes. Reservations are suggested by calling 816-303-1686.

Chef-owner Martin Heuser of the Affare German Restaurant (1911 Main, 816-298-6182) will be serving both a prix fixe Christmas Eve dinner as well as a Christmas Day brunch. The Christmas Eve dinner will be served Monday, December 24, from 4 to 10 p.m. and is available as a three-course meal for $48 per person or five courses for $65 per person.

The dinner menu begins with an amuse bouche of warm, blue cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in Black Forest ham and continues with additional courses: a house-made turkey bratwurst with foie gras and cranberries, quince compote, and a truffle vinaigrette; a butternut squash soup with jumbo shrimp and curry foam; a choice of traditional roasted goose with chestnuts and red cabbage, potato dumplings or grass-fed prime rib roast au jus, Yorkshire pudding, French green beans with mushrooms; seared almond-crusted goat cheese on tree tomatoes with wild flower honey; Spekulatius parfait - a frozen cream concoction with gingerbread spices and rum-soaked raisins served with a bratapfel ragout (a chopped baked apple-and-marzipan concoction) and a warm red-wine-citrus Bishop sauce topped with vanilla sugar or seasonal sweets.

The Affare Christmas Day brunch, served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is an a la carte affair, including buttermilk pancakes and syrup with bacon strips or apple compote ($12), a made-your-way omelet with hash browns ($12), waffles with whipped cream and warm cherry stew ($14), eggs Benedict on rye bread and smoked salmon or cured ham, hollandaise sauce and hash browns ($16), "Arme Ritter" German raisin bread baked in cinnamon egg cream with baked apple ragout and vanilla sauce ($12), a German deli platter featuring assorted cold cuts and cheeses, boiled eggs, tomatoes and dill pickles, assorted breads and rolls ($18), sauerbraten, with sweet-and-sour sauce with raisins and pumpernickel, apple compote, and potato dumplings ($25), golden trout seared in almond crust, caper butter sauce, flash sautéed arugula and purple mushroom potatoes ($12) and prime rib au jus, Yorkshire pudding, French green beans and mushrooms ($29). Reservations are encouraged.
